History

1939
Komakichi Yamada, the first president, established a machine tool plant and started production of Cylinder Grinding Machine.
1943
Plant was designated as a naval factory and engaged in the manufacturing of precision tools. The factory was closed temporarily due to the end of World War II.
1952
Yamada Kikai Kogyo Co., Ltd. was established and incorporated.
1958

Started to manufacture and sell precision high-speed Zero-type vertical milling machine.


Started to manufacture and sell TOM Automatic Tying Machine.

1961

Was commended as an excellent medium-small size company by the director of The Bureau of Tokyo International Trade and Industry.


Started to manufacture and sell precision high-speed 1/2 vertical milling machine.

1963

Organized a nation-wide service network of TOM retail outlets in response to increased demand for Automatic Tying Machine.

1964

Received investment from the Tokyo Small and Medium Size Business Investment & Consultation Corporation.

1965

Established Chiba plant as a specialized machinery plant.

Commended by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry as a company contributing to Japan’s economy through export.


Established Chiba Toso Co., Ltd. as a subsidiary company and started to run a baking/coating factory.

1971

Increased capital to 75 million yen (re-investment by the Tokyo Small and Medium Size Business Investment & Consultation Corporation).

1972

Factory was designated once again as a model plant for a medium-small size company for its successful streamlining.


Production of TOM Automatic Tying Machine reached 20,000.

1981

Developed OT Book Packaging Machine.

1987

Chiba plant moved to Sakura 3rd Industrial Park, where it was renovated and modernized.

1990

Production of TOM Automatic Tying Machine reached 70,000.

1995

Corporate headquarters moved to Sakura City.

Increased capital to 100 million yen.

1996

Established a main processing factory in Sakura City, where the pre-existing Funabashi plant was relocated.

1997

Developed YTC Automatic Tandem Tying Machine.


Integrated the administrative headquarters and sales department at unified premises in Sakura City.

1999

Acquired certification of ISO9001.

2005

Twine Unfolding Device for YTC (Automatic Tandem Tying Machine)

2008

Introduced High Speed Automatic Tandem Tying Machine YTC150-H (RAPID ONE).


Introduced pallet packaging line.

2010

Merged with Star Maintenance Co., Ltd.


West Sales Department moved to Sanda, Hyogo Prefecture.

2011

Star Maintenance sales department moved to Sakura City (headquarters/factory)

2013

Introduced High Speed Automatic Tandem Tying Machine YTC150-H2 Model (RAPID ONE SERIES).

2014

Received the 2014 “Kurumin Mark” for next-generation enterprise accreditation.


Production of TOM Automatic Tying Machine reached 100,000.

2018

Established Tom Vietnam Co., Ltd.
